El Nino – Will we have record snow??
El Nino is a climate pattern that starts with warm water in the tropical pacific. With this climate pattern, the trade winds are weakened. With the trade winds weakened, the warm water does not get pushed out allowing the cooler ocean water to surface. This allows the water to continue to become warmer and to make all different kinds of weather patterns across the world.
For the northern part of the United States and Canada, El Nino times are warmer, and the jet stream is pushed more to the south. El Nino increases the wind shear which will tend to break up hurricanes and not let them develop.
The verdict is still out on record snow for the Northeast. There are 2 different weather models. One says yes and the other says no. I am definitely for the model that is for the record snow!!
