ICONIC FEATURE
One of the most iconic features of Lake Winnisquam is the presence of the Common Loon, a defining symbol of New Hampshire’s lakes. Each year, multiple loon pairs return to nest along the shoreline or on protected floating platforms. Their chicks are able to swim within hours of hatching and are often seen riding on their parents’ backs. The haunting, echoing call of the loon carries across the water, creating a timeless and unmistakable lakefront atmosphere. These remarkable birds are also powerful divers, capable of reaching depths of over 200 feet in search of fish.
WILDLIFE
